US: Marriott International is planning to build a $7.5m TownePlace Suites extended-stay hotel in New Braunfels, Texas, as it continues to expand its longer-stay portfolio in the US.

The hotel group has filed plans to construct a 61,922-square-foot TownePlace Suites at 2211 Sophie Lane, less than five miles from downtown New Braunfels, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Construction is expected to be completed by May 2027.

TownePlace Suites is Marriott’s midscale extended-stay hotel brand, offering residential-style studios and one- and two-bedroom suites with fully equipped kitchens, designed to cater to longer stays.

Marriott already has a 76-room TownePlace Suites and a 99-room SpringHill Suites planned for Fredericksburg, where several hotel developments are in the pipeline through to 2028.

New Braunfels has seen rapid population and economic growth in recent years. The city has approved a number of new hotel developments, including the Mainzer project, which is expected to break ground next year on the site of the New Braunfels Utilities facility in the city centre.

In a bid to attract new businesses and support expansion, New Braunfels City Council recently approved changes to its Chapter 380 incentive programme, lowering the minimum investment threshold from $10m to $1m, allowing the city to offer financial incentives to private companies.
